It's now been just over 2 months since Tekkit Lite was released and there still seems to be some confusion over the differences between Classic and Lite so the following will hopefully clear up any confusion that people may still have.
Why make a new type of Tekkit?
Tekkit was originally the multilayer version of Technic (Technic has now been discontinued). Built on a base of Bukkit, it was/is great for servers of any scale.
Life was good. But then something bad happened...
For all the mods to work nicely together a thing called BukkitForge was used.
Now, for reasons that I won't go into, there was a falling out (sadly, the minecraft modding community does that a lot) and BukkitForge, for lack of a better word, died.
So, thanks to that, Tekkit Classic is stuck on 1.2.5 and it can't update.
The only thing left to do, in order to give people an up to date Tekkit experience, was leave Classic as it was and make a new version, without Bukkit. And that is just what the Technic Team have done.
Why is it called 'Lite'?
The first thing that people seem to think is that it must have fewer mods. THAT IS NOT THE CASE! In the latest dev version of Lite there are 75 mods (way more then Classic ever had).
So why is it called Lite? The fact that it doesn't have Bukkit means that it's not good for large servers. So it's... 'lite'...
So what's the difference?
Tekkit Lite does not have:
- Bukkit (see above)
- Equivalent Exchange 2 (it's only for mc 1.2.5)
- RailCraft (the mod author wanted out just for the sake of it)
- MAtmos
- Optifine (the mod author does not want modpacks to use it anymore, but you can add it back in manually)
In place of the mods above, Lite has:
- ForgeEssentials (to add some of the things from Bukkit)
- Thermal Expansion
- MineFactory Reloaded
- Modular Powersuits
- Equivalent Exchange 3 *alpha*
- Mystcraft
- Factorization
- Steve's Carts
- Treecapitator
- OmniTools
- Dimensional Doors
- Flat Bedrock
- Logistics Pipes
- + A LOAD MORE
In addition it has all the UPDATED mods from Classic (bar the ones listed) that, just by themselves, add a load more content!
So... all in all, unless you have a VERY good reason to stick with Classic/Bukkit, update to Tekkit Lite and have even more fun with Tekkit then you thought possible!
